The peace and quiet of Swallows’ Class spelling lesson was interrupted by someone hammering on the door from the library. The children were surprised when two Vikings entered, both speaking Norse and carrying swords. Tørvald and Embla spent the entire day with us. The children had a multitude of brilliant questions to ask about their outfits, journey from Scandanavia and their lives at home with their Viking tribe. Everyone made a headband to reflect their rank with our tribe, which meant a lot of plaiting. They listened to Viking myths, tried some Viking dances and even staged a battle at the end of the day! It was brilliant fun and everybody learned lots about the Vikings to bring back to the classroom the next week.
