What better way to begin the week than responding to our Big Question, ‘where in the world would you like to go?’ with an African drumming workshop, organised by Oxford Contemporary Music. Jo visited our school for the morning where we experienced learning about and using musical instruments from West Africa. We learnt about djembe drums, shekeres and a kalimba. Mrs Legge even got to lead a group by playing a dun dun drum! We were fortunate enough to use both instruments to play rhythms and create songs. Our hard work culminated in a performance to our friends in other classes. We welcomed them to our performance with an African song, played our rhythmical music in two groups, then combined singing and playing to end our performance.
