Happy New Year everyone!
The children have settled quickly back into school and we have started work on our new Big Question “Where in the World would you like to go?” We will be using a globe, Google Earth and maps to find out about Continents and Oceans and “visiting” a wide variety of places to learn about different cultures and ways of life as well as geographical features.
This term the Year 1s will continue to go to Forest School but on a Thursday morning and not Friday, these sessions will be led by Mrs Legge.
Reception children will have their Forest School session on a Thursday afternoon, these will be led by Sarah Walker and the children will also be accompanied by Mrs Martin.
Daily phonics session will continue as last term with Miss Hill teaching Reception and Mrs Gehin teaching Year 1.
The Year 1s will also be taught together as a year group on a Wednesday afternoon (P.E and Music) and will have an hour of ICT from 1-2pm on a Friday (with Mrs Legge), followed by Continuous Provision from 2-3pm when they are able to choose their own activities in Red Kites class.
All Year 1s will have P.E on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon (both sessions with Year 2) and Reception will continue to have a Relax Kids session on a Friday afternoon.
Mathletics homework for Year 1s will be set on a Thursday and the children have a week to complete it. Spellings that we have worked on daily at school will be sent home on a Friday.
We are continuing to encourage all children to read at least 5 times a week and the incentives of certificates and Mrs Joannou’s Shake Shop are proving very effective!
