Welcome to the Autumn Term and an especially warm welcome to those families joining our Combe School Community in Reception this year.
Our Big Question this term is “Is Light Important?”. We will be exploring what this means across all areas of the curriculum. We are looking forward to learning about Space, The Great Fire of London, Florence Nightingale and building our own Tudor House models!
This term we have started our PSED focus with the book “The Colour Monster”. We have also introduced The Zones of Regulation to the new children which helps children to learn to name and identify the different emotions we feel.
P.E this term for Year Ones is on Tuesdays and Fridays and for Receptions on Tuesdays. Please could children come to school dressed in their P.E kits on those days.
For Year One children, Maths homework (via EdShed Online) and Phonics homework (via Google Classroom) will be set each week on a Friday morning. The children have a week to complete this. We also encourage all children to read 5 nights a week. Achievements are shared each week in our Celebration Worship where certificates are awarded for number of nights reading at home.
As well as their school reading book, each child has a library book chosen from school to take home and share, this will be changed every Wednesday.
Phonics for each Year Group is taught daily to ensure the children make rapid progress. Children’s reading books are closely matched to their phonics skills to ensure they can practise blending sounds together to make words.
Mrs McKechnie supports Red Kites on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Martin on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Reception have a session of Relax Kids with Mrs Martin on a Friday afternoon.
Thank you for all your support, it is very much appreciated.
