Happy New Year and welcome back to Swallows Class for 2024! A great term of excitement, learning and opportunities lie ahead and the class have come back from Christmas refreshed and highly engaged with our new topic.

Our Big Question is ‘What is Wonderful About Where We Live?’. We have hit the ground running and are straight into reading Sky Hawk, with children learning about Scotland, Scottish pine forests and exploring the geography and history of another part of the world. Here in Combe, we are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place and with so many amazing things on our doorstep. We will be studying local rivers, plants and wildlife during our sessions with the Evenlode River Trust. Swallows are off to Blenheim Place later in the term where they will learn about local heroes and history. In addition to this, we are lucky enough to have our Young Voices trip to Birmingham to take part in Britain’s largest children’s choir and a concert at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford!

PE days this term are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As Wednesday’s session is inside, please have a pair of non-marking trainers in school at all times.

One piece of written homework on Google Classroom and maths and spelling homework on EdShed will continue to be set every Monday and is due the following Monday. There is also Times Tables Rockstars for anyone looking for extra times tables practice. We continue to encourage children to read at home at least 5 times a week, offering incentives for successful completion of this enjoyable challenge. Reading Records must be filled in and are collected on a Monday.

Mr Ball, Miss Walsh, Mrs Timms and I all look forward to a happy and healthy term and hope that everyone continues to thrive as the spring arrives.
