Welcome back to the Summer Term! It hardly seems possible that Reception are entering their final term of their first year at school; it doesn’t seem long ago that they started their journey at Combe Primary School!
This term our Big Question is “Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! Do you?” We are exploring what seaside holidays were like in the past and the Year Ones and Twos were inspired by a workshop led by Sonja from Oxfordshire Heritage Museums. We are discovering something of what life used to be like in Victorian times and are learning about Queen Victoria herself…did you know she had 9 children and 40 grandchildren? The children were amazed! A fantastic trip to Bournemouth is planned for later in the term for Y1/ 2 and Reception will be enjoying a Beach afternoon at school.
The Year Ones continue to work alongside their peers for their daily Phonics lessons and also join them for their PE , RE, ICT, PSHE and Music. PE sessions this term take place on a Thursday for all and the Year Ones have another session on a Friday.
Book Club is proving a great success this term and the Reception children look forward to the important job of being Class Librarians each week. They report back on their chosen book and tell the class if they would recommend it. It is also their responsibility to keep the Book Corner tidy, a role they take very seriously.
This term, Red Kites will be hosting their annual Plant Sale to raise money for the charity “Choose Love.” The children will be selling herbs and flowers they have potted up themselves. Look out for more details and do come along. We would love to welcome you!
